American guitarist Paul Stanley, also known by his stage name Starchild, became known worldwide as a founding member and frontman of Kiss. To create his distinctive rock sound Stanley preferred the Ibanez Iceman model, which was not only a sonic but also a visual highlight and perfectly suited to the look of Kiss. Stanley played the Iceman from 1977 to 1980 as well as from 1992 to 1997 and developed during these periods together with Ibanez several Signature models, which are extremely popular with collectors.
With the PS10-BK, Ibanez and Paul Stanley presented a signature model at the 2015 NAMM Show, celebrating the return of the Starchild to the illustrious circle of Ibanez guitarists.
The Ibanez PS10-BK, made in Japan, is based on the Iceman and is not only based on its body shape, but also with the mirrored pickguard, the abalone, and acrylic block inlays, the abalone body binding, and the tailpiece mounted behind the tailpiece Decorative plate optical accents.
The body of the PS10-BK is made of mahogany and has a maple top, while the glued neck is made of 3 strips of maple. The neck/body transition with smooth heel allows comfortable reaching of the high positions. The ebony fingerboard carries 22 frets in medium format.
The Ibanez PS10-BK pickups are by Seymour Duncan. The ’59 model in the neck position delivers the popular, warm sound of a vintage humbucker with crystal clear highs. In the bridge, position sits the Custom 5, which is equipped with a ceramic magnet and provides powerful distortion sounds with long sustain. Thanks to the pronounced height spectrum and the good attack in the mids, the Custom 5 excels in the band mix.
A 3-way toggle switch is available to select the pickups, while individual volume controls and general tone control allow full control of the sound.
The high-quality hardware of the PS10-BK comes from Ibanez. The Gibraltar bridge with sustain block contributes significantly to the excellent resonance behavior of the guitar and guarantees a perfect intonation. The ability to hook the strings into the Quik Change Classic tailpiece from the top makes string changes a breeze. The encapsulated mechanics ensure high tuning stability.
